Over the past year, no other artist has captured my heart quite like beabadoobee. The 22 year-old Filipino-British singer-songwriter has become one of my favorite artists, especially with the release of summer album, Beatopia. I am a huge fan of the gentle instrumentals on the album in songs like "Ripples" and "the perfect pair." These instrumentals pair beautifully with the softer melodies and beabadoobee's vocals. While her previous musical sound was a little edgier with more rock influences, Beatopia has a softer vibe with inspirations from British indie singers like Imogen Heap, Natasha Bedingfield, and Corinne Bailey Rae. This album was nostalgic and reminiscent of the pop-punk of my childhood. I think this may be beabadoobee's strongest album and shows her clear growth and musical evolution. With this album, beabadoobee has cemented herself as my top artist of 2022. As she headlines Taylor Swift on her upcoming Eras Tour, I can only congratulate beabadoobee - and wait patiently for her next move.
