Arizona Takes Season Sweep Over ASU in 4th Quarter Surge

Arizona Women's Basketball faced off against their arch nemesis ASU in their final matchup of the season. McKale was rocking the whole game but ASU kept it close in the first quarter ending with a one point lead above the Sun Devils as the opening period came to a close. The second quarter the Cats would go on a run towards the end to enter the half with a seven point lead. The second half started poorly for Arizona as they shot 31.25% (5-16) in the third quarter but poured it on in the fourth with 18 points and consistent good looks in the paint along with ASU missing 12 of 19 free throws resulting in a 63-52 victory (5th consecutive) over the Sun Devils.

There were quite a few standout performances for the Cats. Arizona got help off the bench as Courtney Blakely scored 10 points. It turned out Esmery Martinez would be the catalyst for this victory. Finishing with 18 points, 15 rebounds, 2 steals, and her 4th double double of the season. Another notable performance came from 5th year guard Helena Pueyo as she tied herself for 2nd in program history for steals (266), notching three on the day to go along with 3 blocks, and 11 points. Arizona is hoping to continue their winning ways over #9 UCLA on Friday as they make their way through the back half of their conference schedule.
