Arizona Stays Hot on the Diamond Against New Mexico

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Baseball team was able to get the win against the University of New Mexico Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona was able to win 9-1 including two home runs that brought in multiple baserunners. 

The scoring started in the bottom half of the third inning by Garen Caulfield with a two run home run that brought in Richie Morales from first base. 

Arizona was able to grow their lead with a single by Tommy Splaine that brought in runner Emilio Corona from third, extending the score 3-0.

The Wildcats bats would not cool down, continuing the scoring in the fifth inning. Brendan Summerhill was able to score from third base thanks to Adonys Guzman hitting a single pushing the score to 4-0. 

The University of New Mexico finally came up with an answer thanks to a triple and an infielders choice to get an out at first. Reed Spenrath was the lone scorer however for the Lobo’s in the top of the sixth.

Mason White was able to put the proverbial nail in the coffin right after hitting a 3 run home run off of the scoreboard in left field. Tommy Splaine and T.J. Adams were the other two that were on the bases for the home run making the score 7-1 in favor of Arizona.

Tommy Splaine and T.J. Adams was able to score again in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to a couple of sacrifice flyouts and an error from the third baseman with the final score being 9-1.

Tommy Splaine had a perfect day at the plate going 4-4.

The pitcher awarded with the win was Dawson Netz who relieved starter Josh Morano in the third inning. 

With the win Arizona’s record is back in the positive after the win, improving 14-13 while New Mexico drops to 16-12.
