Khruangbin and Leon Bridges follow up their 2020 EP, Texas Sun, with their latest EP titled: Texas Moon. The music appropriately mirrors the juxtaposition implied with the titles; Texas Moon is a slight shift from the pair’s previous effort in the sense that the components of the songs are slightly more melancholic.

Texas Moon revolves around the feelings of longing and remembrance with lyrics such as “Her sweet melody sings wherever I go.” and “I love the way spend the time, running through your fields.” suggesting that this ep serves as a memoir to a more intimate time. Instrumentally, Texas Moon fuses soul and alternative music effortlessly, making the EP a cohesive experience from start to finish. “Doris” commences the album with smooth vocals paired with spacey guitars. The rhythm sections consist of an R&B bassline that is coupled with a slow tempo drum giving the track a soul-like texture. The EP quickly picks up with the second track titled “B-Side.” “B-Side” becomes very lively thanks to its funky rhythm section which is carried by a funky guitar. “Father Father” and “Chocolate Hills” is similar to “Doris” by being heavily inspired by soul and R&B. Both tracks contain spacey guitar licks with emotional vocals. Texas Moon concludes with a heartfelt ballad titled “Mariella.” The final track combines all the elements seen in previous songs to create a thrilling experience filled with beautiful vocals, percussions, guitar solos, and everything you have come to expect when listening to a sing created by Kraungbin & Leon Bridges.
