Description:

Alanis Morissette is synonymous with karaoke breakup songs, alternative rick royalty, and downright self-proclaimed liberation. The Canadian native has just released the teaser track to her much-anticipated album “Such Pretty Forks in the Road” entitled “Smiling”. The song starts off with soft-spoken vocals with clear pronunciation of the lyrics in order to encompass Morissette’s overall cadence. She then builds upon the central theme of the song which is resilience in the face of adversity. Just as the song suggests in being titles “Smiling” that track is a rise and fall of self-confidence and a personal reminder to ensure that regardless of present woes as long as one is positive they will be able to come out the other end all the wiser. The track has a predictable pop style format in which there are segmented verses, a solid chorus, and a musical bridge. Even though the production of the song is not as raw as some of her earlier tracks it is clear to distinguish the emotional journey she is taking in the song as the music crescendoes when describing her defeats and refers back to the soft vocals when she must real in her self doubt to remind herself to remain perseverent. Overall the song is a great catalyst for the launch of her upcoming record scheduled to be released May first of 2020 which leaves die-hard fans waiting in anticipation.
