CRAZY or Crazy?

Album/EP: CRAZY

Artist: LE SSERAFIM

Genre: #Kpop

Label: Hybe Entertainment

Non-Airable: N/A

After surpassing through the infamous Coachella performance and the lack of progression South Korea hides in K-pop. 'CRAZY' is the talk of K-pop, the teasers and concept photos had some people in the audience have low expectations for the song, and people were skeptical over the unique concept that Le Sserafim was soon going to showcase. Because of this, a lot of listeners of K-pop and general fans of Le Sserafim started to doubt their potential with this new and different concept with the aspect of not being as good as they were before. With the unfortunate lack of vocals that were displayed at Coachella, people had very low expectations, meaning that people were not going to tune in as they usually would. Leading to a lack of excitement and care for what they were going to release.

The 'CRAZY' EP presents a new aspect and age of K-pop, a style of house music that expresses queer representation with the showcase of Le Sserafim voguing alongside the House of Juicy Couture in the 'CRAZY' music video. 'CRAZY' has a small but diverse course of songs within the EP, such as 'Pierrot' and '1-800-hot-n-fun'; showing the widespread genres K-pop groups explore within their music and catchy beats. Out of the new releases this year by K-pop groups, this is seemingly most favorited with how easy it is to listen to, and the odd yet fun music video they released. It was critically acclaimed well by Rolling Stone, and surprisingly the same people that had doubts with 'CRAZY', even though many stans were arguing over the fact that they were stealing certain ideas and concepts from other groups, it hasn't stopped or limited Le Sserafim from their immense success with this recent release, like performing at the VMA's.

As stated, South Korea in general is not progressive when it comes to politics, which translates heavily through K-pop, exposing a lot of the bad in gender roles, and even the behavior of certain idols. Having the House of Juicy Couture showcase within a music video, let alone a K-pop music video is very significant within the culture of not only K-pop but South Korea. Many Koreans did not take this well when it came to the release, people were discrediting Le Sserafim and Hybe (the corporation) for the choice to feature the house. Not only this but the type of song that 'CRAZY' is and the lyrics did not sit well with netizens because of the women empowerment that some of the Korean lyrics contained. Even through all that, they were able to surpass some charts outside of Korea, which is why it is doing so well because of the larger audience it brought to the table. Regardless of what people thought, Le Sserafim alone (arguably) forwarded new aspects and ideas that have larger potential now in K-pop.

Post-release, Le Sserafim released an EP with remixes of CRAZY, the most awaited song is 'CRAZY' but, featuring PinkPantheress, a song to look into out of all the remixes. Overall, the success of this EP has been amazing to view, Le Sserafim is now the 8th K-pop group and 6th K-pop girl group in history to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. This is one of the most impressive accomplishments a K-pop group can do, surpassing the ideas and standards in Korea, and in music. Because there are only 8 groups ever to make this accomplishment, it's been able to reestablish Le Sserafim's ability as a group by having more genres under their wing, even after everything back in April.

Among the many K-pop groups and songs, this is one I'd suggest looking into to get a groove and a good mood because all the girls really are girling.
