Arizona Football has had a tough season thus far, winning only two games in the Big 12 conference and going 2-5 on the season. After last week's 56-12 loss against UCF, questions arose regarding the job security of the Wildcats coaching staff, Friday's game against Houston a must-win for Arizona.
The Arizona defensive line held the Houston Cougars to only 3 points on the night. The Wildcat defense forced 3 turnovers as well as 4 turnovers on fourth downs.
Sophomore defensive back Genesis Smith came up huge for Arizona on Friday night with an interception, 7 tackles and a pass breakup.
"I was on the quarterback's eyes that play so kind of just led me to where I needed to go," said Genesis regarding his interception.
Offensively, Arizona was able to hold their own against the Cougar's with 337 total yards and 224 pass yards from QB Noah Fifita. Fifita was able to find success in his junior wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan for an early 33-yard touchdown pass in the beginning of the first quarter.
"I thought our offense.. it was good to see us find some rhythm and move the football consistently, I thought that was encouraging," said coach Brent Brennan.
Senior kicker Tyler Loop found success versus Houston kicking a school record 62-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter, putting the Wildcats up 10-3 going into halftime.
Senior running back Quali Conley put the rest of the points on the board for Arizona scoring two TD's, his longest being a 50-yard rushing touchdown at the end of the third quarter.
Arizona faces two tough opponents coming up in TCU and Arizona State, both being must-win games in order to keep bowl game hopes alive.
